2012 Fall State Camp Recap

The 2012 Team NC year came to a close November 17th, as 40 of the state's top 10 & under and 8 & under players took part in the State Camp held at Cary Tennis Park. All participants participated in a jamboree earlier in the year before qualifying for an Area Camp and being selected for the State Camp.

Player Tracking Results

Throughout the year Team NC hosts a series of Jamborees across the state. Players can participate in the Area Camps if selected at one of Team NC's many Jamborees held in the spring and fall. These Jamborees include a series of drills and tests to measure the skills of its participants. These results are compiled and shared online. NC Finishes Second at 2012 Southern Junior Cup

North Carolina's top junior players (14-18 years old) competed in the 2012 Southern Junior Cup September 21-23 in Lupton, TN where they took home a second place finish. Georgia captured its 19th-consecutive Southern Cup title to win the tournament and was followed by North Carolina in second and South Carolina in third.

About Team NC

Team North Carolina is a comprehensive plan to attract players in the 8 & under segment and continue to offer training opportunities throughout their junior tennis career in North Carolina. Team North Carolina will attempt to build a pyramid base of players in the younger age groups and make an impact on their competitive training in these formative years. It also endeavors to build loyalty to the program by requiring community service, mentoring to younger players by also participating in the younger age group camp, and playing to represent North Carolina in team events. Each level of the Team NC will be represented by a colored bag tag for players to display as they travel around the state to events. The hope is that this program will be a living, breathing program that will grow and change to continue to meet the needs of our junior player population.

The base of the pyramid is built through a statewide effort by local CTA’s to host carnivals, festivals, kid’s clubs, etc. to widen the pool of players. From there, the kids who are inspired by the game and play in JTT leagues, sanctioned tournaments and unsanctioned events will be invited to a statewide network of 8 & under local Early Development Jamborees (EDJ) or 10 & Under EDJ’s held regionally throughout NC. The Team NC plan continues to narrow by player proficiency up to a Statewide Early Development Camp (EDC). Read More
